Do you want to restore your old car to its former glory? If so, then you probably require the services of an auto body shop. Depending on the type of damage done to your car, different car restoration step by step process may be used. Of course, if you want to get your moneys worth when you have your vehicle repaired, it is a good idea to know a little bit about car restoration and how it works. Also, depending on the type of car restoration that you want done, it may be possible to make use of your insurance although optional repairs or enhancements are generally not covered by standard automobile insurance policies.
Unlike repairs, car restoration is generally a purely aesthetic process and this is why if you want your car restored, it will have to come out of your own pocket.

Finding Parts

The first step that you will need to take is to find parts for your particular car. You will have to choose between going for after market parts or hunting down original equipment manufacturer parts for your particular model. Remember that car restoration is really all about aesthetics. Of course, this means that the inside and outside of your car should look as good, if not even better than new. Depending on the model of your car, the auto body shop may have the parts you need on-hand. Even if they dont, all reputable auto body shops should have liaisons with parts suppliers to help you get the parts you need. Take note that the older your car model is, the harder it will be to procure OEM parts.

Exterior Restoration

This involves several auto body shop services depending on the wear and tear on your car. For example, if there dents on your vehicle, then it will require dent repairs, which could either be traditional dent repairs or paintless dent repairs. Furthermore, the paint job will probably need retouching. No matter how much youve cared for your car, if it is an older model, the paint job will need to be fixed a bit. In exterior detailing, a chrome finish is also added to make your car look even better than when it came out of the factory. Naturally, wax should be applied and some tire black on the wheels to make them really stand out. In some cases, removal of foreign materials stuck or decayed to the cars frame may also be required.

Interior Restoration

From the cars upholstery to the carpets, ceiling cover, dashboard, steering wheel, and even the pedals, multiple parts replacement may be required. The cars seats will probably need to be reupholstered and even the gearshift may need to be replaced.

Engine Restoration

If you are restoring a car, it should not only look as good as new, it should also run as good as new. The cars engine will need to be taken apart piece by piece. Next, each part should be thoroughly examined by a certified technician to see which parts require repairs or replacement. Every single part must be checked.
